The IATE term of the week: bail out

Every week TermCoord selects a new term from the European Terminology Databank “IATE”, which is related to relevant political and international issues occurring during the week.

This week we have selected the term “bail out” with the reference to the recent elections in Greece and the attempts of the leader of Greece’s left-wing Syriza to form a coalition, based on tearing up the terms of the EU/IMF bailout deal (the article on BBC news).

Definition: give financial assistance to a failing company, financial institution or economy to save it from collapse.
