The IATE term of the week is “asylum”

This week we have selected the term “asylum” with a reference to the situation in Syria. (Read article in the Guardian)

Every week TermCoord selects a new term from the European Terminology Databank “IATE”, which is related to relevant political and international issues occurring during the week.

Definition: 1) In general terms, means refuge or shelter; 2) In diplomatic terms, permission for temporary or permanent stay on its territory, consented by a State to a person rendered homeless due to a disaster, or to a refugee or persecuted people.
