Inttranet™, a global network of professional interpreters and translators, and its readers will choose by the end of January the “Linguists of the Year”. This prize aims to recognize efforts done for the promotion of linguists and languages during 2012. The winner will be encouraged to donate the cash prize to the NGO of his/her choice.
Some of the nominees are Red T dedicated to the protection of translators and interpreters in conflict zones and other adversarial settings; Macquarie Dictionary editor Sue Butler, for expanding the definition of Misogyny; Lydia Callis, for making American Sign Language and Science better understood; Diamond Kazimi, for his defence of Afghan interpreters; Global Voices for their on-going defence of language rights; or UNPO (the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization) for their defence of tribal peoples.
