Seminars

We organize seminars which make up part of a general cycle entitled: Terminology in the Changing World of Translation.

Each year different topics related to Terminology will be chosen. See the most recent ones:

1. LexicoGraffiti (23 January 2012)

Lexicograffiti is our next seminar that will deal with lexicography and e-lexicography and will take place on 23 January 2012 in Luxembourg.

Prof. Gerhard Budin (from the University of Vienna) will talk about the evolution from lexicography to e-lexicography and the theoretical aspects of terminography. He will also speak about the terminology content and resource development and will focus on practical experiences and conclusions for the management of large term databases.

Sylviane Granger (from the Catholic University of Louvain) will talk about Customizable dictionary-cum-corpus web-based tools focusing on three major developments in electronic lexicography:

  • the use of corpora and advanced corpus-handling tools as a major resource used by lexicographers to improve monolingual and multilingual dictionaries (in particular their phraseological coverage) and by dictionary users to find contextually appropriate translation equivalents;
  • innovative changes to the dictionary structure afforded by the electronic medium, in particular multiple access routes and efficient integration of phraseology;
  • customizability of the dictionary content and integrated corpora in function of users’ needs.

2. TermITes and CATs (20 June 2011)

3. Terminology in Legislative Procedures (28 March 2011)

Seminars usually consist of a theoretical part in the morning and of a more technical and interactive part (workshop, panel discussion) in the afternoon. Nevertheless this is subject to change.
