The new platform of Kamusi GOLD, also self-proclaimed the “Dictionary of the Future”, was launched at the end of February.
The project started in 1994 with Swahili and an initial focus on African languages, but grew into a larger-scale initiative with the addition of European and Asian languages, like Spanish, French, Romanian, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese. The slogan of the project stating their goal is “Every word in every language!”
The novelty of the platform is that it intends to create a concept-based dictionary, which approach is usually used by terminology databases but not dictionaries. It’s a participatory international effort so contributions are welcome in various ways.
