The Directorate-General for Translation is one of the biggest translation services in the world. It is also the largest single department in the European Commission. They have a total number of staff of around 2.500, including translators and staff performing tasks supporting translation work (management, assistants, communication, information technology, training, etc.). This figure includes all staff in Brussels, Luxembourg and the local offices in the Member States. They translate some 2 million pages a year. Other EU institutions and bodies (the Council, Parliament, Court of Justice, European Economic and Social Committee and Committee of the Regions, Court of Auditors, etc.) have their own translation departments, whereas the various specialised decentralised EU agencies and bodies send their translation work to the Translation Centre for the Bodies of the European Union (…). This document shows the translation tools and the translation workflow used by the translators in the European Commission.
